Anavra (Greek: Ανάβρα) is a village and a former community in Magnesia, Thessaly, Greece. According to the census of 2001 the population of Anavra was 987 citizens. The village of Anavra is located on the West side of Mount Othrys, at a height of 900 metres above the sea level. Visitors will be delighted by the natural environment, with its dense vegetation and clear waters. The Enipeas river, which is a tributary of the Pineios, starts at the springs of Anavra and passes through the village for two kilometres. According to Mythology, Anavra has always been connected with livestock activities. Almost all the inhabitants are today employed in farming and herding. [Wikipedia]

Anavra is today considered as a phenomenon in Greece, since it has a 0% unemployment rate, high income for all inhabitants and a lot of model buildings and services.

There is a primary school with 2 teachers and a kindergarten, all in new buildings. The municipality provides residence both for the teachers and for the village’s doctor. Also, Anavra has a Folklore Museum, a Citizens Service Centre (CSC), a fully equipped gym, football and basketball courts, while a two-storey parking in the central square allows the village to be free of traffic. There are 80 modern livestock facilities in 3 livestock farms around the village and two large environmentally-friendly projects have been developed in the past two decades: a wind farm and an Environmental and Cultural Park of 240 acres.

Although Anavra is a settlement without a traditional character (2 earthquakes and 2 wars have destroyed it in the past), it presents the conditions that ensure a comfortable stay for visitors and a high quality of life for locals, a quality that city dwellers certainly envy.
